Aug. 13 – It was a GORGEOUS day yesterday (as is today) so I grabbed a lounger, a pillow, and my lunch and sunbathed on the front dock while eating lunch. Neil chose to stay inside. Last night about 10:40 (2240) I again grabbed a lounger, a pillow, and a sheet – after getting a few mosquito bites – and star bathed on the front dock!! The bullfrogs were “noising” across the bay and one of the loons called out “good night” from across the lake. I saw 4-5 satellites pass over and at least a couple dozen “shooting stars” in the 45 minutes I was out there. One of the ‘stars’ lasted from the area of the back dock all the way until just under the planet Mars!!! God sure does good work!!! It was almost an intrusion when the blinking lights of a high-flying plane appeared. I tried to get Neil to join me, but after getting a few mosquitos bites while standing on the back dock – and not seeing any heavenly action – he opted for reading in bed. Anyone want to join me for some sun bathing today OR star bathing tonight????
Enjoy the day in your neck of the woods 🙂 Debby

Aug. 17 – Hi All – my Aunt Barb asked me to continue sending lake-related emails to make her jealous that she can’t be here so-o-o-o-o……….I decided to ‘torture’ the rest of you, too.
Today is a breezy day with wisps of cotton ball clouds and clear clean air after spotty weekend showers. The hummingbirds (and bees) have been busy at the feeders and other birds have been ‘singing’ away. I spent the morning cleaning – buckets, wood stove, carpets, and the Capital. I look forward to another lunch eaten on the front dock and then a walk around the lake to get in the rest of the steps I need for the day.
Sure do wish y’all could be here to enjoy it with me!!
Smiles to you, Debby

Aug. 20 – Today’s entry may not make you too jealous………….. My tan is fading!! Two days of coolish, windy weather and today we’ve had much needed moisture descending – one downpour, and steady rain and/or drizzle. Instead of baking my body, I spent today in the kitchen (banana bread & oatmeal raisin cookies) – Jeremy arrives this weekend. Temps stayed around 60 outside – I was able to keep inside a toasty 69 with the oven and the woodstove. Tonight is supposed to be in the mid 40’s!!

Aug. 22 – Yesterday we were awakened by the sounds of silence – no power from 0717-1255 – glad I baked the day before. Rained all morning, but quit by mid-afternoon. Outside temp was 55, inside temp 64, and water temp (for my bath) 68. Only felt cold for the first plunge. Today at 0330, 48 outside and same inside. Not much sleep keeping the woodstove fed. By noon, 70 on the porch, 60 outside. Tonight is suppose to be upper 30’s or lower 40’s. Where did I pack those long johns???? Jeremy is on his way – won’t get here til tomorrow.
Enjoy your day in your neck of the woods! Smiles, Debby

Aug. 26 – Greetings – the Cheerful-Hollow-Leg arrived safely at 0135 hours on Sunday and drove straight to the Landing. He says he didn’t want to wake us (I was ‘waltzing’ down the path to the Capital anyway), but I think he just didn’t want to join us in the 40 degree cabin when he could flop on a bed where there was heat available. Since his arrival 2 trees have been felled, food consumed, a load of gravel dispersed to the various low spots on the driveway and paths, food consumed, caught a 13″ bass, food consumed, the brush pile burned and currently smoldering, s’mores consumed, visited Black River Harbor/Lake Superior, ate pasties, visited with Aunt Ruth & Uncle Floyd (sad to see them so aged), toured the Wampum shop, food consumed, etc, etc. The last 3 days have been gorgeous and my tan has been revived! The temps are supposed to be very chilly the next two nights with rain and low 60’s on Friday. The wood boxes are filled to the brim! Gorgeous sunset tonight with the partial moon on the rise and the lake almost like glass. Wish y’all were here.
Smiles to you in your ‘neck of the woods’!! Debby

Aug. 31 – Neil and I were in Chicago over the weekend for my great aunt’s memorial service – had a leisurely drive back along the Lake Michigan shoreline – the water was cold on my bare feet. For our 10 hour day we only averaged 42mph. The “comforting” (um – familiar) scents of the lower path wafted to greet our return to the cabin. It was already down to the upper 40’s by 8pm, so Neil got a fire started and warmed up his core temps by splitting more wood. By 10pm the mists were swirling over the lake, but the half moon was so bright you could see the reflection of the shoreline in the glassy surface of the water. ‘Twas rather cool overnight – 38 degrees – but almost got to 70 this afternoon. I was able to get in some dock time after chores – refilling all 3 wood boxes and some laundry – but I lost my favorite hair clip through the boards of the dock 🙁 ‘Tis now bath time – burrrrr.
Enjoy your neck of the woods! Debby

Sept. 2 – Rocky Point is almost closed for the season 🙁 🙁 Even a month wasn’t long enough for me. The wood burning stove was smoking out the top of the chimney INSIDE so we were forced to spend our final night at the Landing. I guess we already have the list started for projects for next year. We just have a few final things to do at Rocky Point before heading back to reality – um, Eagle Lake – in the morning. Of course the weather here is suppose to be GORGEOUS thru the weekend. The almost-full moon is lighting the sky making the stars a little hard to see. The loons have sung their good nights and the rooster at the neighbors place is finally quiet. I have to finish signing the Log book and then these tired feet are headed to bed.
Praising God for the beauty of His creation and the opportunity to enjoy it! Debby
